One day at a time
One day at a time. That is what I keep telling myself. My momma was full of excellent advice. When I felt overwhelmed or defeated she would say, "Jeanna Kay, take it one day at a time and everything else will fall into place God will." I cherish every piece of sage advice this brilliant woman shared with me.
So today as this mountain of unfolded laundry stares back at me, I remember her words. I have my calender open and the list of my to-do's is daunting today. I did school work, so a big bold line goes across that ONE item. Laundry will move to the bottom of the list, because who needs folded clothes. I have a doctor appointment, and according to my husband, I can not miss that again. So that is at the top of the list. Clean house, bathe puppies, clean car, study, prepare for work...this list continues.
Who else feels like there is not enough time in the day, week, month? Whose calendar looks like a grade school kid went through it and erased, rewrote, highlighted, numbered, and created a hot mess of your life? When did adulting become so convoluted?
It is mornings like these that I stop and take stock. What have I not done today or for several days? I have not prayed; I have not devoted myself to Him or immersed myself in His word. Another piece of sage advice from my mom. Start every morning with prayer, give thanks to God. Ask for his guidance and trust the path he sets you on. When you feel overwhelmed, ask Him for help.
Psalm is easily one of my favorite books of the Bible. The Lord is my light and my salvation, so why should I be afraid? Psalm 27:1.
So today as I ponder my list, and I think of my mom's sage advice, I will have peace and not let myself be overwhelmed, afraid, stressed. Instead, I will take it one day at a time, and prayer and devotion will remain at the top of my list. God will give me strength and hopefully help with this dang laundry!
